The Valor Story

THE VALOR STORY

Valor began with a simple idea and a simple setup. A folding table. A few boxes of product. Weekend markets in the Byron Bay hinterland, where conversations mattered as much as sales. Originally created as a fundraiser for Sea Shepherd, Valor wasn’t meant to become a brand at all. It was meant to help.

Something unexpected happened early on.

Men would stop, pick up a product, smell it, and hesitate. Then they’d ask questions. Many them mentioned it to their their friends and family. Some admitted they’d never really thought about skincare before, but they were tired of harsh products, synthetic smells, and irritated skin. One customer came back the following week just to say the deodorant worked better than anything they had tried before. That moment stuck.

Word travelled faster than we anticipated.

Local grocery stores and organic retailers asked if they could stock the range. Then barbershops. Gift shops. a National Museum. Before long, travellers who had discovered Valor in Australia began placing orders from overseas, wanting the same products they’d taken home in their luggage. Corporate event organisers followed, choosing Valor as a premium Australian-made gift. Museums and tourist destinations came next, looking for ethical, locally produced ranges with a story behind them.

As demand grew, the range evolved, but not everything made the cut. Products launched only when we were satisfied that met our design brief in full. Not only must they work exceptionally well, but they must feel good on the skin, and align with our values. Today, Valor offers natural deodorant, skincare, shaving & beard products, gifts, and accessories designed to be simple, effective, and genuinely enjoyable to use.

Two products stand out for good reason. Pit Stop, our aluminium-free natural deodorant, earned its reputation through word of mouth. It just works, and it’s adored by both men and women. Our Castile Soap Face, Beard & Body Wash became a staple for customers with sensitive skin.

The Valor Story

Ethics have never been an afterthought. Valor products are made using high-quality ingredients and contain no palm oil, synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulphates, or questionable preservatives. They’re safe for waterways and septic systems. They moisturise, hydrate, ease beard itch, help prevent ingrown hairs, and support healthy skin rather than stripping it back.

Valor was founded by Victoria Clayton, a committed eco-warrior who set the tone from the start. In 2020 Victoria passed the care of Valor to Deb Farnworth-Wood, whose extensive skincare experience is matched by the same clear commitment: - to create products that are natural, environmentally responsible, and genuinely good for skin. Today Deb’s son Jacques, a qualified cosmetic chemist is the artisan behind the brand.

Every Valor product is still made in small batches. Orders are packed and dispatched daily from our Gold Coast warehouse. Growth has come steadily, both locally and internationally, but the foundations haven’t changed.

We continue to focus on doing things properly. Making products we’re proud of, and staying true to Valor/s origins.

The Valor Brand

Valor is grounded in the coastal lifestyle of Byron Bay, relaxed, intentional, and quietly confident. We don’t shout. We don’t overpromise. We let quality, scent, and performance do the talking.

He believes that men shouldn’t have to choose between effective grooming and their personal values. Whether he’s auditing our sustainable manufacturing processes or refining a new product’s performance, Jacques’ goal remains the same: creating principled essentials that help our community feel confident in their skin and their impact on the planet.
